Every piece at Farrell & Co. is made by hand, start to finish. We work with American English Bridle and Carving leather hides of the highest quality. We believe that you can't make the finest products if you don't start with the finest materials.
Each piece begins as a pattern which is traced onto the hide and then cut out by hand on the cutting table. Once the patterns are cut, every piece is edged, a process of gently shaving leather to smooth the perimeter surface. Holes for stitching, rivets and closures are then punched, and exposed edges are dyed by hand using a special leather dye.
All of our pieces are either hand stitched, riveted, or a combination of the two using waxed nylon thread and solid brass hardware. While it is a time consuming process, working in this way allows us to create unique, beautiful and timeless designs that would be impossible to achieve on a machine.
With regular use the leather will darken and soften, resulting in a one of a kind piece that will become richer and more complex over time.
